City of Belpre Fire Department
Belpre was one of the first Solar Adopters, installing solar panels on their city building as early as 2008. In 2018 Belpre approached Pickering Energy Solutions to donate several electric vehicle charging stations, which are currently installed in their Civitan Park. Through this discussion we began to look over options for additional solar PV installations on Belpre City Buildings.
We decided to install a solar system on the roof of the Fire Department on Washington Boulevard, which provides a good opportunity for the community to see Belpre’s commitment to sustainable energy programs while offsetting most of the power used in the building.
This 27 kW system uses 90-Silfab (a Canadian Company) 300W panels and 4-SMA Sunny Boy 7.7 kW inverters. This system will produce approximately 31,000 kWH of energy annually.
This solar system will:
- Save the City of Belpre approximately $ 200. per year in utility costs.
- Produce the annual amount of power required for 3 homes using renewable energy.
- Avoid the release of 32 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere annually; the equivalent of 27 acres of trees, or the annual output of 6 automobiles.
- Provide about 50% of the power used by the building in an average year.
