During the installation of the last clinics in Bong County, Liberia in early 2014, Bruce Moilan, who works with Brother’s Brother Foundation (which has an office in Pittsburgh) provided vital resources and logistical support for our installations. Through Bruce, and while I was still in Liberia, I also developed the design parameters for the Sis Iye Orphanage in Monrovia, which was to be financed through Brother’s Brother.
Upon returning I was contacted by Trusted Angels to provide a fast-tracked solar installation at the MODUC (Mission for Orphaned, Disabled and Unattended Children) Orphanage in Buchanan, Liberia. They have connections with Brother’s Brother and received financing for the project through a generous donation from Mike Weir of Pittsburgh. This project had a goal of completing a Phase 1 installation by the end of June 2014. To accomplish this we ordered some of the materials through Union Strong in Monrovia and had the inverter and other materials shipped from the US via air. Our team was onsite and completed the installation during the third week in June, 2014. Thanks to Bobo Willie Voupawoe and Feleku Pewee for leading the installation team.
This system is comprised of (9) SolarWorld 270 Watt Mono panels and an Outback export-rated inverter with battery backup. This system will provide limited power to the facility and will be upgraded with a Phase 2 program of additional panels and/or batteries as their growth needs and available resources dictate.
