Working with Trusted Angels in June we were able to provide a smaller 2.4 kW solar PV system for an orphanage in Buchanan, Liberia. This power system was put together very quickly and was installed just as the Ebola outbreak was taking hold in the country, using components which were found locally in Liberia and components which were purchased and shipped from the US.
In December we completed a larger system (7.5 kW, our largest in Africa) at the Sis Iye orphanage in Monrovia. This system was in planning for a year and was funded by Robert Peirce and other philanthropists in Pittsburgh and delivered for the Trusted Angels program. These orphanages have provided havens for Liberian children that do not have a safe home to go to, and as the children are not on the street they have a reduced risk of exposure to Ebola and other challenges of city living.
This system is comprised of 30 260 Watt Solarworld Panels panels and has 16 large batteries which store the energy for use at night and on days when there is limited power production from the sun. The inverter is a 6 kW inverter by Outback Systems.
